Greetings Alpha Colony Fans!
Many of you have probably wondered what happened to us over the past few weeks. Have no fear, our commitment to Alpha Colony is as strong as ever! We’ve never ceased working on the game and had to keep quiet about it for a little while.
What we’ve been up to
Over the past few weeks, we’ve been in legal negotiations to renew our license with M.U.L.E.. Because of this ‘legal-limbo’ we’ve been unable to officially announce our intentions until now.
We have only the utmost respect for Dani Bunten and, as we originally designed Alpha Colony, we had her memory fondly in or hearts. We thought that acquiring the M.U.L.E. license would be the best way to honor that memory and engage the community. It now appears that our efforts in that direction were misguided.
Dani Bunten was an innovator, and her contributions to the evolution of video games cannot be overstated. If she were alive today, we don’t think she would just remake a 30 year-old game, and we don’t want to either. We feel the best way to honor Dani’s innovative contributions is with a similarly innovative contribution of our own. Ironically, this means the best way to honor our memories of Dani is to forge ahead (as originally planned) with our own original game and without an official M.U.L.E license.
We are proud to announce our official title will, once again, be “Alpha Colony: Return to Irata”.
As an added bonus, this is just one of the creative ways we are working to drastically cut our project’s price tag and allow us to build this game at a lower cost.
Now that that’s settled, we are going to resume regular updates to our Facebook, Twitter (@alphacolonygame) and our project website (alphacolony.com).
Unfortunately, due to a misunderstanding about our license, the original Kickstarter page was pulled. That campaign was in complete compliance with our original paid license agreement, and we hope that it will be reinstated (for historical reasons) soon. Until that time, we will be unable to post updates to Kickstarter, and our site and Twitter will be the best sources for current information on Alpha Colony.
Thank You, Everyone
We’d like to take the time to thank everyone for their continued interest in our project. We’d especially like to thank those of you who provided invaluable feedback via our survey. That has helped re-enforce our direction for Alpha Colony. We have learned what’s important to you, and what’s not. Along with dropping the license and securing outside funding, this has helped us lower our next Kickstarter goal to $175k.
Thank you for your patience, I know you’re eager to find out what’s next for Alpha Colony. And as always, we’re listening. Feel free to hit us up on Facebook, Twitter or at firstname.lastname@example.org –we’re committed to making you the best game possible.
